Florida was cooler than expected. only 65. which isn't bad considering Michigan was a lot cooler..but the wind was whipping. walking down the beach we looked at each other and thought we were in some movie caught in a sand storm. but we didn't care. it was going to be my first picnic, and considering we would be able to enjoy a beautiful sunset, i was excited. the cool thing too...although the weather was a bit tough, it made the beach scarce. we were the only one's there. steve had ordered a bottle of my favorite wine, columbia winery, syrah. which we can't buy in michigan or florida. we ate super yummy food from a local bistro and enjoyed the wine with hints of sand from the windy weather. it was so cool to have lived almost 31 years without a picnic...this will definitely not be our last! when we were finished enjoying the picnic, we decided to walk up the beach with a metal detector we borrowed from his parents neighbor. although there were a few requests from me to find a pirates treasure we were finding nothing. as the sun started to descend we decided to head back up the beach to our picnic site. steve walked towards our blanket and looked at me to ask if this was the spot the detector found something when we first started searching. i replied, no, seeing that it was about 5 feet from our footsteps in the sand. but he was persistent and to my amazement that darn ol' detector went off. signaling me to start digging, i went at it and quickly looked up at him with a big grin showing him the piece of tinfoil that had been buried. all that buildup and only tinfoil. but steve was sure there was something else buried in that sand. so i kept digging. just a few more swipes with the garden trowel unearthed a tattered pirates chest. in shock, i opened it up and saw that it contained a scroll, tied with a string and the edges burnt. i carefully opened it to read it's contents. instantly realizing what was about to happen, i looked up at steve and sat amazed. realizing that there was another chest nestled in the larger one, i opened the top to discover a ring. steve took the ring out of my hands and while asking me to marry him, he slid it on my finger. Guess he already knew my answer since he didn't wait for it!, but of course i said yes! and in utter amazement, we sat on the beach and watched the sunset light up the florida sky.

now we're off to plan a september wedding and sell my house. this will fore sure make a busy yet completely amazing summer. i've had a perma grin since last friday. we're so happy.
