christian frustration

**mood: astonished
**noise: nothing...we blew a fuse...

in early January, a school board in Federal Way, Washington banned the viewing of An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore. here's a quote from a father who sent an email opposing that the movie should be shown in school...

"Condoms don't belong in school, and neither does Al Gore. He's not a schoolteacher," said Frosty Hardison, a parent of seven who also said that he believes the Earth is 14,000 years old. "The information that's being presented is a very cockeyed view of what the truth is. ... The Bible says that in the end times everything will burn up, but that perspective isn't in the DVD."
His wife says:
"From what I've seen (of the movie) and what my husband has expressed to me, if (the movie) is going to take the approach of 'bad America, bad America,' I don't think it should be shown at all," Gayle Hardison said. "If you're going to come in and just say America is creating the rotten ruin of the world, I don't think the video should be shown."
OK, i can see their perspective that school, may not be the proper place for kids to view this movie, but seriously, what in the world is he talking about? what does this have to do with the Bible saying that in the end times the world will burn up...doesn't it also talk about being a good steward? is this guy saying that we should rape and pillage the world over because in the end it doesn't matter? is he saying that we should keep on the same road of destruction because we're just helping Jesus out, bringing the end times faster? i just don't get this logic? i want to understand where he's coming from, but i can't. and his wife!!! why don't these folks see the movie their talking about before they oppose it. why don't they educate themselves before they start going after something.

i see this all the time. whether it's harry potter, the davinci code, global warming, bigotry, yoga....and although many groups of folks get on band wagons and start spatting off crap, it seems that the majority of the time, it's Christians. it makes me sick. here's just another example of Christians making waves and inevitably, turning off non-believers because their viewpoints are so whacked.

what are we doing? seriously, what will this movie hurt??? how can this movie disrupt our children's faith? why do folks make such huge deals on little piddly stuff? and this movie? i see absolutely no logic in his viewpoints. help me find his logic. please...
