organic milk

i've noticed that there truly are only 2 organic milk options out there. horizon and organic valley. i prefer horizon, but organic valley is a good choice too. i've noticed that there are other stores making organic milk, which is cool, but what i've found is that they go bad super quick, long before the expiration date. i've tried them more than a few times just to make sure, but every time is the same, bad milk. which sucks since it's so expensive. so, my advice, if you're an organic milk drinker, stick with horizon. it may be pricey, but at least it stays fresh until the expiration date.

i totally agree, Horizon rocks! I have been a loyal customer of theirs for about 7 years. However, they recently stopped carrying it at the Meijer out here. I tried the Meijer brand and it stinks! Yet another reason to be a Kroger girl.

My family prefers Horizon as well. The Better Health store in Frandor is not too bad on their prices anymore or at least not on some of the stuff I buy. When they have Horizon milk they have good prices but they tend to be out quite often. Target also carries Horizon milk.

I always ask the bagger/cashier to try to fit everything in to the bags I have with me!

walmart has it too...but the one time i bought it there, it was spoiled. i have a feeling that walmart doesn't take care of their perishables very well. oh, sam's has it too...they have the one with added dha.

i usually just get mine at kroger or target. i love target!

i usually watch the bagger and make sure they pack my bags full, but i wasn't watching this time...serves me right! cool that you use cloth bags cindy! very cool!

Horizon (though they have great ways to convince buyers otherwise) does not produce ethically organic milk. I was shocked to read this, but they actually received the lowest rating in a 5-tier rating system on milk dairy producers who sold organic milk.

I was very happy, then, to see that Horizon got the second highest rating (Excellent) out of five.

The reason there is an ethical rating system is because the government is not very specific on what is "organic milk", and so some big companies are bending the rules and cutting corners to sell as organic. Horizon is the worst perpetrator according to this website. There were 60+ companies in the study:

moral of the story: buying horizon is very very similar to buying traditional (non-organic) milk, except you pay double price.
